TeamDev Telco Analytics

TeamDev Telco Analytics deals with creating detailed analyzes based on the data provided as input to the software.

TeamDev Telco Analytics is able to create analysis on a geographical basis to give evidence of complex phenomena that occur during the development of the event.


Olivetti added to the solution anonymous and aggregated data from Tim mobile network, in full accordance with privacy laws. Starting from the TIM cellular presence data, suitably anonymized and aggregated, an analysis was carried out to measure the concentrations and movements of the crowd as time passes within the city. The observation takes into consideration the points of interest located throughout the city and the open data available.

The presence of non-resident visitors in the city of Perugia was taken into consideration.


The open data used in this software are the positions of the points of interest of the event such as: stands, exhibitions, internal Eurochocolate events, parking lots, preferential access routes. To this are added open data regarding the program of the event, the main agenda, etc.

  • uso delle vie preferenziali di accesso alla città
  • numero di visitatori (divisi per uomo / donna, origine, fascia d’età, ecc.)
  • analisi dei social network

La Figura 1 mostra i punti della città interessati dall’evento e oggetto di analisi da parte del prodotto sviluppato.

La Figura 2 mostra l’area dell’evento; le celle esagonali con il rosso più scuro indicano un’alta concentrazione di visitatori. Nelle mappe le stazioni del Minimetrò sono indicate in giallo, i parcheggi cittadini e le stazioni ferroviarie e degli autobus sono blu e blu chiaro.

L’analisi dell’hotspot (Figura 3) identifica i raggruppamenti statisticamente significativi di dati geografici in base a una distanza calcolata.

In particolare, l’analisi dell’hotspot è stata sviluppata tenendo conto della presenza di visitatori non residenti all’evento Eurochocolate 2018. Nell’immagine seguente, vengono visualizzati punti rossi (punti caldi) e punti verdi (punti freddi). Nel giallo le stazioni di Minimetrò.

As is born

Eurochocolate is an annual event dedicated to the culture of chocolate. Founded in 1994, today it is the largest and the most important chocolate event in Europe – it attracts almost a million of visitors. The 25thedition of Eurochocolate (Eurochocolate 2018) took place from October 19th to October 28th in Perugia. The event ran along the main streets and squares of the historic city center.

During the 10 days, a large number of people, coming from all over Italy and Europe, attended the event, occupying the streets and squares of the historic center of the city, using the car parking, the train station, and the subway stations. The organizers of the event expressed to need for a solution able to monitor the flows of attendees, to monitor their presence, to guarantee a pleasant experience, and to analyze their information for communication and future planning purposes.


The managers of Eurochocolate expressed great interest in the platform, because it allowed them to combine the qualitative considerations with the technical ones and to make them available to the security organs, so as to evaluate the corrective actions to be implemented in the course of the next editions, so that they can enjoy the event in maximum safety. In more details, Eurochocolate organizers were interested in:

  • Study the city presence of certain categories of people: male/female, age group, regional origin.
  • Study the flow of movement of people within the city (shuttles, metro, bus, car).
  • Study the flows of access to the city on the main transport routes.
  • Increase security by monitoring the concentration of people.
  • Optimize the flow of access to the city and city mobility.
  • Provide data for planning future events and city planning.
  • Identify problems of traffic and travel on “unofficial” roads.


To this end, the WELCOME solution was set-up and deployed to perform geographical analysis, and to understand the concentration of people at different times of the day, in collaboration with Olivetti and thanks to the financing of EiT Digital

TeamDev Telco Analytics solution, deployed in Perugia (Eurochocolate) pilot allows City Government to analyze the incidence and evolution of events occurring in the territory.

It is a Decision Support System which helps to improve urban planning and city management. GeoAnalytics uses the most innovative statistical techniques and employs them together with geospatial data.

It is able to realize temporal analysis in order to understand the evolution of events. Thanks to correlation analysis it is able to study connections between different events.
